Posture tells it's own story
This picture was taken during the initial observations before the first treatment for this 7yo quarter horse gelding.  He found it very difficult to stand square and reverted to this stance each time we tried to square him up, telling me he is uncomfortable in the back and also offloading weight from the left foreleg onto the right foreleg. He also looks to be very much on the forehand and would be uncomfortable to ride. His hooves are unbalanced putting extra stress on the leg joints above. He has his elbows held tight to his body, one of the common compensations caused by fascial injuries in the shoulders. His neck is held slightly to the right and his facial expression is tight and unhappy. Although these things may appear subtle they tell a story to Robyn and help her decide what to address first.
Follow up sessions

Saddle Fit Check

Robyn is not a qualified saddle fitter but she has had training in checking saddles for their fit, soundness and suitability. Robyn is also experienced with the fitting of Skito pads and can advise if a Skito Pad would be of assistance to your horse. Often, when viewed from behind and above we can clearly see the horse's shoulder blades are not sitting level and there is uneveness in the wither pockets and back. This cause of this is usually adressed with treatment but it takes time for the muscles to even up, in this case it is essential to use some type of adjustable or shimmed pad until symmetry is achieved.

Horses do vary in their reactions but some responses are common
  • Your horse may be tired and lethargic for 2 days
  • Or they may feel exceptionally well and move around more exuberantly
  • Your horse may need a short rest from ridden or driven work
  • You will probably be advised to handwalk, or pony, your horse for the time it is resting.
